Seeing Newbridge Through the Lens With Carolyn Hide
Carolyn Hide is a photographer known for her authentic, real-life approach to visual storytelling. She captures the unique narrative of each event with strong attention to detail, documenting not only key moments but also the subtle elements that bring depth, emotion and meaning to an image
A beginner’s guide to capturing the places, stories and details that make Newbridge special. This relaxed, practical workshop is designed for beginners who want to take better photographs of the places, people and everyday details that make up their world.
The focus will be on composition and learning how to see a photograph before taking it. We will explore how simple changes in position, perspective and framing can turn an ordinary country scene into a more interesting photograph.
The workshop will cover:
- Understanding the basic principles of good composition
- The rule of thirds — and when to break it
- Using leading lines, shapes, patterns and symmetry
- Foreground, middle ground and background
- Looking for interesting details as well as wider scenes
- Working with light, shadows and changing conditions
- Choosing what to include — and what to leave out
- Different viewpoints: getting low, getting high, moving closer and stepping back
- Creating a sense of place in photographs
- Photographing buildings, streets, landscapes and small details
- Making the most of whatever camera you have
- Practical tips for using a mobile phone camera, including focus, exposure, composition and avoiding common mistakes
Most importantly, the workshop will encourage participants to slow down, look around and discover photographic opportunities in familiar places.
