The Judge for the 2025 Newbridge Art Show is Peter Haynes.
Cowra-based Peter Haynes is an established curator, writer, and visual arts historian. Since 1978, he has worked extensively in the museum and gallery sector, with occasional forays into academia.
He holds BA Honours in Archaeology and Fine Arts from the University of Sydney and has undertaken postgraduate studies in English and Art History.
In 1981, after working at the Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney, Peter moved to Canberra to take up the role of Curator at the Canberra School of Art (now part of the ANU), where he also served as Head of the Art History and Theory Workshop.
Since leaving the School of Art in 1988, Peter has held numerous key positions, including:
- Curator, Parliament House Art Collection
- Director/Curator, Nolan Gallery
- Director, ACT Museums and Galleries
- University Art Curator, University of Canberra
He was also Adjunct Associate Professor in Museology and Cultural Heritage at the Donald Horne Institute for Cultural Heritage, University of Canberra.
Peter has lectured extensively on the visual arts and heritage, curated over 250 exhibitions, and published more than 300 works nationally and internationally. From 2014 to 2022, he was an art critic for The Canberra Times.
